In 2022, three noted psychologists produced an extensive editorial: Human Connection as a Treatment for Addiction. Their research included broad, diverse studies. They used a bio-psycho-socio-spiritual model of health and illness, in order to tap into multiple perspectives. This was their summary conclusion: “In summary, the results of our research topic of articles point to a significantly positive influence of the feeling of connectedness with people on the treatment of addictive disorders.”
Translation: connection matters.
Paul confirms this thesis with a simple admonition to the church he planted: “Encourage one another and build one another up” (1 Thessalonians 5:11).
I leave you with two questions.
- How well are you connected to others in the recovery community?
- What are you personally doing to build someone else up?
Recovery Step: Get connected. Build someone else up.
