If you are going to get serious about your addiction, you will have to move from the talking phase to the doing phase. And for that you will need a plan. Jesus said it like this: “Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it?” (Luke 14:28).
Dr. Denise Fournier offers a specific plan that you might find useful, in her article, “Fundamental Factors of Success in Addiction Recovery.” She begins, “While there isn’t yet a cure, these factors can set recovery on the right path.” Dr. Fournier suggests the following components of recovery.
- Readiness to change
- Belief in the ability to overcome challenges
- Maintenance of psychological and emotional wellness
- Support from others
- Structure
- Productivity
Recovery Step: You need a desire that leads to a decision that leads to direction that leads to determination that leads to destiny. But first, you need a plan.
