“Speak, Lord, for your servant hears” (1 Samuel 3:9).
Those are among the most powerful six words in all of Scripture. There is no greater task than to sit, be still, and listen for the voice of God. So why don’t we hear him more clearly, more directly, and more consistently? I suggest several reasons.
Lack of dedicated listening time
Distractions from daily life
Fear of what God might say
Not believing God really speaks
Disobedience
Try being still for just a few minutes. Try saying nothing. Try focusing on God alone. Try listening to the whisper of his Spirit. Try that today.
Recovery Step: If you are fighting for sobriety, quit listening to every voice out there. Just for today – listen for the voice of God.
