I spent nearly half my life in school – 29 years. I have met a lot of really smart people along my journey. I have met presidents, governors, surgeons, philosophers, astronauts, and scientists. I have played chess against grandmasters and dialogued with the leaders of some of the world’s most successful companies. I’ve known geniuses who explained to me quantum physics, the laws of thermodynamics, and why they can play football in a blizzard, but can’t play baseball in a light rain shower.
But smart isn’t good enough. Paul ran with the giants of his day. He emerged from a world of academia, surrounded by scholars. And this was his take on it all:
“Some of these people have missed the most important thing in life – they don’t know God” (1 Timothy 6:21 TLB).
Many people miss God by 18 inches – the distance from their head to their heart. They are smart. But smart isn’t good enough.
Recovery Step: You will never have all the answers. So trust in the one who does.
