Football legend Joe Theismann is well-known for his verbal gaffes. For example, he once said, “Nobody in football should be called a genius. A genius is a guy like Norman Einstein.”
If you aren’t as smart as Norman Einstein, not all is lost. Look to God for wisdom. “The Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding” (Proverbs 2:6).
Let’s apply that to recovery. Smart recovery does five things:
- Never takes sobriety for granted
- Never takes a day off
- Seeks accountability
- Has a relapse prevention plan
- Treats the middle circle as seriously as the inner circle
Before you work hard, work smart. Adopt recovery principles that have been proven helpful throughout time.
Recovery Step: Get smarter in your recovery.
