Speaking of substance abuse, Joanne Zuhl wrote, “Even if addiction isn’t what puts people on the streets, it is often what keeps them there.”
Let’s apply that to any addiction, including sex. For many of us, regardless of how we found our way into the ditch, we are there, and we struggle mightily to dig our way out. In fact, we were really destined to lives of hopelessness.
That’s when the words of the old prophet bring hope, when he spoke of being “snatched from the fire” (Zechariah 3:2).
Some ditches are simply too deep. You can’t dig out of them. But praise God for the reach of his arm. He stands ready to snatch you from the fire.
Recovery Step: When you come to the end of yourself, you come to the beginning of God. Want to be snatched from the fire? God’s ready if you are.
