Singing is good for you. The exception is in Sarasota, Florida, where you can get arrested for singing in public while wearing a bathing suit. But for the rest of us, it may be time to start singing.
We know the Bible is pro-singing. It reads, “Come, let us sing praise to the Lord! Let us shout praises to the Rock who saves us. Come and worship him with songs of thanks” (Psalm 95:1-3).
Why are we told to sing? For starters, singing lowers cortisol and relieves stress and tension. Studies have shown that when people sing, endorphins and oxytocin are released by the brain, which in turn lowers stress and anxiety levels.
Studies have identified other benefits of singing:
- Enhanced lung function
- Boost in confidence
- Improved mental alertness
- Better immune system
- Better sleep
- Improved posture
- Better mood
Recovery Step: Start singing. It’s good for your spiritual life. It’s good for your mood. It’s good for your recovery.
