In the United States, we have quite a few laws that really don’t make a lot of sense. Here are a few examples from around the country.
- In Alaska, it is illegal to get drunk in a bar.
- In Idaho, cannibalism is forbidden.
- In Florida, you aren’t allowed to sell children.
- In Georgia, you can’t eat fried chicken with utensils.
- In Arizona, you can’t spit in public.
- In Louisiana, it is against the law to steal catfish.
For centuries, man has written thousands of laws for the purpose of heading off every inappropriate behavior he can think of. But the law is never enough to keep us on the right track. Paul wrote, “The law of Moses was unable to save us because of the weakness of our sinful nature. So God did what the law could not do” (Romans 8:3).
