On August 27, 2020, Hurricane Laura hit Cameron, Louisiana, with winds of 150 mph. The storm left $19.1 billion in damages and took 81 lives. Yet, despite the catastrophic damage, a few things were left unscathed.
A plastic trash can remained unmoved outside a local business. A single crepe myrtle tree stood proudly among the wreckage. A home by the coast suffered severe damage, but a seashell placed on a fence post remained untouched. These objects weren’t immune to the storm’s power, but they were not destroyed.
What storms are you facing today? The Bible promises, “We are hard-pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed” (1 Corinthians 4:8-9).
In the Christian life, we will face storms. You can count on that. But through faith in Christ, you can stand firm. There will never be a hurricane that is strong enough to ever change that.
Recovery Step: Storms are not a choice. Going through them alone is. Don’t do it.
