It was one of the most significant events in sports history. The date was March 31, 1985. In Wrestlemania I, The Iron Sheik and Nikolai Volkoff defeated Barry Windham and Mike Rotundo for the WWE World Tag Team Championship.
A lot of us treat the Christian life as a tag team event. When we get into trouble, we tag out and Jesus jumps into the ring to fight our fight for us. Then, when things are going well again, we tag back in.
Let me state this with theological depth. Jesus is not your tag team partner. Victory comes when you tag out – and stay out.
Jesus was clear: “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross and follow me” (Matthew 16:24).
Recovery Step: St. Francis of Assisi prayed, “Be found of me, Lord, so that in all things I may act only in accordance with thy holy will.” Translation – you will not be successful in life or recovery until you turn the reigns over to God completely.
