Take a breath.
Few things are more mundane than breathing, yet few things are more miraculous. With every breath, we inhale half a liter of air, which contains 12.5 sextillion molecules. That’s more molecules than all the sand on all the seashores on planet Earth, including sandcastles.
Take another breath.
The surface area of your lungs, with all their nooks and crannies, is the same size as a tennis court. And all the airways, from your trachea to your bronchial tubes, measure 1,500 miles. You have 25 trillion red blood cells, and each of those red blood cells contains 260 million hemoglobin proteins, which deliver oxygen atoms on time, every time, all the time.
If God can create such an intricate life as yours, certainly he can provide for you every step of the way. Sobriety. Recovery. Joy. Peace. The God who created you is the author and protector of it all.
So take a breath.
Recovery Step: “Let everything that has breath, praise the Lord” (Psalm 150:6).
