Talk is cheap. You can quote me on that. Give me credit. I’m pretty sure I’m the first person to say that. So let me say it again.
Talk is cheap.
Ben Johnson expounded a bit. “To speak and to speak well, are two different things. A fool may talk, but a wise man speaks.”
Solomon said it like this: “Mere talk only leads to poverty” (Proverbs 14:23).
Go to any 12-Step meeting and you will hear a lot of talk. Some of it is good, helpful, and full of wisdom. But other talk is just that – talk. We hear empty promises of working the Steps, making calls, and taking our recovery to the next level.
If we are to be successful in recovery, we must learn the difference between talking and speaking; opening our mouths and actually saying something.
Recovery Step: Talk is cheap. So try this. Rather than talking about what you will do, do what you’ve been talking about.
