Have you ever had someone in recovery let you down? I sure have! Don’t let the mistakes of a sponsor, counselor, or group member throw you off. There are sinners and hypocrites all over the place – even in recovery groups.
But a bad second-hand experience should never convince you recovery is not possible.
Let me explain. Someone you looked up to had a relapse. And your reaction might be to think, “Is sobriety even possible, if this person fell?”
The answer is not to turn away from those who disappoint you, but to turn to the One who makes all things possible. The Bible promises, “Taste and see that the Lord is good” (Psalm 34:8).
To find lasting recovery, you must taste and see for yourself. Recovery is like good food. No one can describe it for you; you must taste it for yourself.
Recovery Step: Make your recovery personal. Own it.
