A writer named David Redding wrote about growing up on a farm in Scotland. As a young boy, he was given a beautiful black puppy he named Teddy. Redding and Teddy were inseparable. When Redding had to go off to war, he was unable to return to his farm for more than two years. But when he was finally able to come home, he was about a half mile from the family farm when he heard Teddy barking. Redding said he just whistled like he used to. Teddy heard the whistle and came running.
Redding observed, “If a dog can receive me back after I’ve been away for two years, how much more will God welcome me back when I return to him?”
Whether you ran off, wandered off, or got caught up in your addiction, remember this – God stands ready to welcome you back.
“This says the Lord of hosts, ‘Return to me, that I may return to you’” (Zechariah 1:3).
Recovery Step: Your addiction will never take you beyond the reach of God’s grace. It’s time to come home.
