We will all be tested. Following the 9/11 attack, President George W. Bush said, “The resolve of our great nation is being tested. But make no mistake, we will show the world that we will pass the test.”
In recovery, testing is a part of the process.
Jesus was tested, but he used that as a positive. “Because he himself was tested through what he suffered, he is able to help those who are being tested” (Hebrews 2:18).
How does testing benefit those with addictions? It’s simple – testing drives us to God. Pastor Ike Reighard said, “When you face a tough situation you need to be able to take hold of the situation and lean into God to help you through the testing, the pruning, and the refining process.”
Are you facing tests in your life today? (The answer is yes.) The question is what you will do about this test. The point isn’t really the test itself, but how you respond. And the only response that works is to let your test drive you to God.
Recovery Step: Let your testing move you closer to your God.
