Two Texas ranchers were each bragging on the size of their ranch. The first rancher said, “My ranch is so big that I can get in my pickup truck on one end of the ranch and head for the other end. When the sun goes down, I’m still not to the other end of my ranch.”
The second rancher replied, “Yeah, I used to have a truck like that!”
Most of us are prone to overestimating the size of our ranch – and the progress of our recovery.
Jeremiah 9:23 says, “Thus says the Lord: ‘Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches.’”
If you are to stay on track with your recovery, it is imperative that you remain humble. Know that you can always relapse, that your work is never done, and that success is the result of relentless work and daily surrender.
Recovery Step: If you are to get to where you’ve never been, you’ll have to do what you’ve never done – a lifetime of recovery work.
