In 1864, President Abraham Lincoln issued a proclamation declaring Thanksgiving as a day on which citizens should give thanks and praise to God and humble themselves and pray fervently for the return of the blessings of peace, union, and harmony.
As we celebrate Thanksgiving in America today, I remind you of God’s instructions for the blessings of any people.
“If my people who are called by my name humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin, and will heal their land” (2 Chronicles 7:14).
The same principle that applies to any nation also applies to any person, especially one in recovery. It is when we call on God, humble ourselves, and turn from our addiction that heaven hears, angels celebrate, and recovery begins.
