Worry. It’s something we are all really good at. We all know how to worry and we all worry more than we should. The great Charlie Brown said it like this: “Sometimes you lie in bed at night and you don’t have a single thing to worry about. That always worries me!”
As an addict, it is easy to worry about the next relapse. As a wounded spouse, it is easy to worry about our mate’s next relapse. But like most things we worry about, that next relapse does not have to happen. Worry is wasted energy. It takes up space that would be better used in a million other ways.
The Bible is opposed to worry. Jesus said, “Do not worry about tomorrow” (Matthew 6:34). And Paul said, “Worry about nothing” (Philippians 4:6).
Anyone can worry. But God offers a better way. It’s called surrender. You can worry about the future, or you can surrender to the One who has already been there.
Recovery Step: Choose surrender over worry.
