Several times a week, I will hear someone say, “Have you read the latest book by [insert famous author]?” Friends will recommend a podcast, video presentation, or article. We send links to a sermon or song. And that’s all good.
But here’s what we don’t send each other so often – Bible verses.
Whatever happened to Bible verses? The Bible is still the best book on recovery, with due respect to Patrick Carnes, Mark Laaser, Ted Robers, Doug Weiss, Jay Stringer, and Milton Magness. I have all their books and refer to them often.
But nothing beats the Word of God. I love what hymnist Fanny Crosby said of God’s Word. “This book is to me God’s treasure house. It is my bread of life, the anchor of my home, my pillar of fire by night, my pillar of cloud by day. It is the lantern that lights my pathway to my paradise home.”
King David wrote, “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path” (Psalm 119:105).
Recovery Step: I strongly encourage you to read at least one page of recovery material every day, from a qualified author. After you read the Word of God.
