Imagine that you saw a man hanging around a dumpster. He looked hungry, so you gave him a $100 gift card to the supermarket just a few steps away. With that card he could purchase anything he wanted – steak, seafood, snacks, desserts, or produce. Your gift card would supply him with enough meals to last several days.
The man took your gift card with a smile, thanking you for your kindness. Then you drove away.
A couple of hours later, your errands returned you to that same parking lot. And to your dismay, you found your new friend – digging for food in the dumpster.
To live in our addiction is like eating out of a dumpster with a supermarket next door.
God had put recovery, fulfillment, and transformation within your reach. You can claim the freedom he offers. Or you can continue to eat out of the dumpster.
The Bible says, “For you are God, O Sovereign Lord. Your words are truth, and you have promised these good things to your servant” (2 Samuel 7:28).
Recovery Step: A.W. Tozer said, “The goodness of God is infinitely more wonderful than we will ever be able to comprehend.” You have a choice. You can walk in that goodness today. Or you can return to the dumpster that never satisfies.
