Bubba drove his family into the big city for the first time. Their first stop was a four-star, 20-story hotel. As they entered the lobby, an elderly woman with a cane entered an elevator. Of course, Bubba and his family had never seen an elevator before, so they just assumed the lady was walking into a tiny room.
A few minutes later, the elevator doors opened, and out walked a gorgeous young woman. Bubba turned to his son and said, “Quick! Go get your mama!”
What Bubba wanted is what we all want – instant gratification and instantaneous change. It’s what Scripture calls “chasing fleeting pleasures” (Hebrews 11:25).
For Bubba, that elevator button changed everything. We continue to look for that button. The good news is that it exists.
It’s called Recovery.
Recovery Step: In our addiction, we give up everything for that one thing. In recovery, we give up one thing for everything. The next move is yours. Press the right button.
