Before there was Bruce Jenner, Caitlyn Jenner, Kendall Jenner, or Kylie Jenner, there was a man named Edward Jenner. While Edward never made the cover of People magazine, never changed sexes, or did any of the other things that make today’s headlines, he did have one thing on his resume that is pretty impressive.
In 1796, Edward Jenner developed the vaccine that eradicated smallpox, though the disease would not be fully gone until it had claimed 500 million lives in the 20th century alone. The key to this remarkable breakthrough, according to Jenner, was quite simple.
“I never gave up.”
That is the key to every success – a relentless commitment to the goal. Never giving up. Pushing on through great challenges. Standing tall when others cower. Running when you want to stop.
The road to recovery is never straight, downhill, or soft. The trail winds through the forest of temptations, it is often uphill, and the end is never in sight. But you can do this – if you never give up.
Recovery Step: Paul said, “I have worked harder than any of the others” (1 Corinthians 15:9). He also said to pray without ceasing, rejoice always, and give thanks in all circumstances. In other words, never give up!
