The first American movie theater opened on this date in history – April 2, 1902.
Yes, 1902.
In Los Angeles, Tally’s Electric Theater opened its doors with an hour-long film, with a white bed sheet as the screen. Sadly, the theater was torn down in 1998.
Americans have always loved their movies. Every day, five new movies are produced. The most-watched movie of all time was Titanic in 1997, while the most expensive movie (adjusted for inflation) was Star Wars: The Force Awakens in 2015.
Movies make for a great distraction but a horrible habit. There are quite a few things that will benefit your life more than staring at a screen for three hours while consuming 5,000 calories covered in butter. Solomon warned, “I passed by the field of a sluggard, by the vineyard of a man lacking sense, and behold, it was all overgrown with thorns; the ground was covered with nettles, and its stone wall was broken down” (Ecclesiastes 10:18).
Recovery Step: Movies are like dessert. They can be wonderful, as long as you don’t make them your main course.
