If you ever find yourself accused of a crime, the first thing you need to do is to get a good lawyer. That is especially true in the court of sin.
John wrote, “My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father – Jesus Christ” (1 John 2:1).
An advocate is one who is called alongside another person, to give comfort and help. He is a lawyer who pleads on our behalf in court. The great advocate is Jesus, who pleads our case in heaven before the Great Judge.
The next time you find yourself on the wrong side of perfection, let your first call be to your Lawyer. He will be happy to take your call.
Recovery Step: When you fall short in your recovery work, don’t make excuses and don’t try to defend yourself. You have a great Advocate for that. Keep him on speed dial.
