When someone is a guest on a talk show, before going out, they wait in the “green room.” Before a band takes the stage, they gather in the “green room.” Before a politician offers a speech, he waits off stage, out of sight, in the – you guessed it – “green room.”
So why is it called the “green room”? We’ll get to that in a second.
What’s the point of a green room? The purpose for which it exists is simple. It is there that a performer makes final preparations before going on stage.
Every Christian needs a green room. It is better known as a prayer closet. Jesus said, “When you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you” (Matthew 6:6).
Recovery Step: Don’t miss the lesson of the green room. It’s what you do in the green room (prayer closet) before you go on stage that matters. Now, back to our original question. Why, exactly, is it called a “green room”? Answer: nobody really knows.
