God cares for you enough to never waste your pain.
A good friend recently told me that he hopes God can use his past, pain included. I assured him that this is God’s precise plan. God never lets our pain go to waste. Pain is what C.S. Lewis called “God’s great unwanted gift.”
Remember a fellow named Lazarus? He died, his sisters mourned, and then Jesus stepped in. Lazarus’ resurrection brought great joy to Mary and Martha. Their brother was alive, and life was good again.
But guess what? Eventually, Lazarus died – again. And this time there was no resurrection. Assuredly the pain was back. Mary and Martha had a funeral service to attend.
God is not against pain. In fact, God uses pain. And the same God who allowed the pain of Mary and Martha – twice – has allowed the pain of your traumatic past.
Recovery Step: Don’t miss out on this blessing – “God is near to the brokenhearted” (Psalm 34:18). What God has allowed, he will redeem. That includes your pain.
