Addicts are adrenaline junkies. We can all relate to my double – Tom Cruise. He famously said, “I feel the need – the need for speed!” (Top Gun, 1986).
Carey Mulligan said, “Sex addiction is a subject that should be discussed.”
So let’s discuss it. We all like to pretend our addiction is only the result of abuse or isolation. And I get that. You will be hard pressed to find an addict of any kind who doesn’t have abuse and isolation on their resume. But to live in this addiction – sometimes for decades – is a choice others cannot make for us.
We love the thrill, the ecstasy, the next “hit.” We feel the need for speed.
But eventually, speed catches up to us. We can’t get enough speed. We are never satisfied. And then we crash.
That’s when God steps in. If you have crashed, know that God is ready to help you pick up the pieces.
Recovery Step: The Bible warns us, “Do not lust in your heart after her beauty or let her captivate you with her eyes” (Proverbs 6:25). Translation: get off the speed. Speed kills. You only think you need speed. What you really need is God.
