“How old would you be if you didn’t know the day you were born?”
– Toby Keith, Don’t Let the Old Man In
Ponder that one for a bit.
Don’t misunderstand me. Time takes its toll on all of us. Skin wrinkles. Metabolism slows. Muscles atrophy. If you don’t believe me, attend your next high school reunion; take two seconds to look around the room.
But did you know there is only one way for medical professionals to determine your exact age? It’s not by checking your heart rate or blood pressure. It’s not a blood test or a sophisticated body scan. Your doctor can tell your exact age by doing one thing – asking you the date you were born.
Here’s my advice. Accept your age, but don’t submit to your age.
David celebrated the One who keeps us young. He wrote, “He renews my strength” (Psalm 23:3).
Recovery Step: Recovery is a marathon. You won’t make it unless you lean on God to constantly renew your strength. Don’t let the old man in.
