When I want deep philosophical thought, I turn to . . . Charlie Brown.
One day, Lucy looked at Charlie Brown and saw that he was depressed. She said, “Charlie Brown, the problem with you is that you are you.” Charlie responded, “Oh, and what can I do about that?” Lucy replied, “I’m not here to give any prescriptions. I’m just here to point out the problems.”
We all have at least one Lucy in our lives – someone who sees their role in life as that of pointing out our problems. No solutions, just condemnation.
For each of us, the Bible offers encouragement.
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand” (Isaiah 41:10).
You already know your shortcomings. Now it’s time to turn to the One who can do something about it.
Recovery Step: Surrender to the God of all encouragement.
