We tend to overemphasize outward appearance. Especially sex addicts.
This is a powerful verse: “The Lord said to Samuel, ‘Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart” (1 Samuel 16:7).
Our natural instinct is to judge others based on first impressions. That would especially be true if you were a student at Marsden State High School in Logan City, south of Brisbane, in Australia. There is a certain English teacher there who calls herself Miss Purr. She thinks she’s a cat.
Miss Purr hisses at the students and consistently licks her hands throughout the class. One parent complained, “In order for my daughter to get a good grade, Miss Purr makes her purr in class.”
Our job is to look past the odd behaviors and appearances of other people, even if they identify as a cat.
Recovery Step: Judge others based on what’s on their inside. Not by how well they have learned to purr.
