Sixty-one years ago today, on November 15, 1959, a singing group known as The Quarrymen lost in the preliminary round of Carroll Levis’s TV Star Search competition. This was the third time they entered the competition and lost. They lost to a woman who played a tune on her spoons. The Quarrymen found little success, until they changed their name.
The Quarrymen became The Beatles.
The Beatles eventually did okay for themselves, for two reasons – they were pretty good musicians, and they did not give up.
Recovery is the reward of the persistent. It is only when we embrace the journey that we find our destination. Let me suggest three blessings you may discover on the journey toward recovery.
- You will find patience.
- You will find genuine friends.
- You will find God.
Recovery Step: Learn from the Beatles. When you experience a set-back, see it as a set-up. Keep moving forward. “Do not become weary in well-doing” (Galatians 6:9).
