“So Jephthah fled from his brothers and settled in the land of Tob, where a gang of scoundrels gathered around him and followed him” (Judges 11:3).
Aaron Rodgers, full-time football player (when he isn’t injured) and part-time philosopher, said, “Surround yourself with really good people. I think that’s an important thing, because the people you surround yourself with are a reflection of you.”
Derek Jeter said, “Surround yourself with good people. People who are going to be honest with you and look out for your best interests.”
And legendary coach Don Shula said, “The one thing that I know is that you win with good people.”
There is a stark contrast between the right crowd and the wrong crowd:
- The right people lift you up; the wrong people tear you down.
- The right people tell you what you need to hear; the wrong ones tell you what you want to hear.
- The wrong people leave when you mess up; that’s when the right people show up.
You are going to run with some kind of a crowd. You might as well make it the right crowd.
Recovery Step: Surround yourself with the right kind of people.
