“And he said to them all, ‘If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me’” (Luke 9:23).
The key word – daily.
Anyone can follow Jesus across the street. But we are called to follow him across the decades. And we are to do that daily.
That implies something habitual. To follow Jesus daily means to read his Word every day, and to pray every day. We are to seek him every day. We literally make a habit out of following Jesus.
Seventeenth-century philosopher Blaise Pascal has provided enormous wisdom: “The strength of a man’s virtue is measured by his habitual acts.”
