How do you measure yourself? What does “success” look like? Let me suggest that most of us have the wrong scoreboard.
You are not defined by your addiction or your abilities. Nor are you defined by your past or your profession; your hobby or your house. You are not the sum total of your mind, muscles, money, and marriage. You are not limited by your finances, fitness, or family. You are not measured by your scale, bank account, mirror, talent, or degree. It’s not about your latest win or most recent defeat; your relapse or recovery, slip or sobriety.
Neil Anderson nailed it: “The most important belief we possess is a true knowledge of who God is. The second most important belief is who we are as children of God.”
Scripture has much to say about who we are in Christ:
- New creation (2 Corinthians 5:17)
- Adopted into God’s family (Ephesians 1:5)
- Heirs in Christ (Romans 8:17)
Recovery Step: You are a new creation, adopted into the family of God, an heir in Christ. And that is enough.
