A great aspiration for any man or woman would be a life of authenticity. Socrates offered great advice to all of us. He said, “The way to gain a good reputation is to endeavor to be what you desire to appear.”
J.B. Cachila wrote an article for Christian Post, “Three Ways to Be Authentic.” He offered three suggestions.
1. Imitate Christ. While this is difficult to do, this is exactly what God demands.
2. Live in the light. Cachila wrote, “This means to live with nothing to hide – no sin, no hypocrisy, no pretensions, nothing.”
3. Walk in love. We should love God first, then family and others. We love because God first loved us.
Living an authentic life means being who we want others to think we are. It means dealing with our temptations honestly. The really good thing is that the authentic life is available to any of us – if we really want it.
Recovery Step: Jesus prayed for us when he said, “Sanctify them in the truth” (John 17:17). Jesus was praying that we’d live in truth. That’s called being authentic. It’s also called being sober.
