Let’s play Bible Trivia. Can you name the only time in the Bible when God is shown running?
Answer – Luke 15:20
“So he got up and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion for him, and ran and embraced him and kissed him.”
Of course, in this story of the Prodigal Son, the father represents God. Let the imagery sink in.
The son wanted to have it both ways – his father’s inheritance plus the pleasures of this world. After he had wasted his time and treasure, he hit bottom. Only then did he make his way back home. And the instant his waiting father spotted him in the distance, he ran to his son, giving him a warm embrace.
Never make the mistake of believing your addiction has taken you beyond the reach of God. The moment you get up and return to your Father, he will be waiting and he will be watching.
And then he’ll be running.
Recovery Step: Return to the One who is waiting with open arms.
