If your faith is strong enough, you will never be sick, you will always have plenty of money, and life will always be easy. And I will be the next quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys.
Of course, none of this is true. The uncomfortable truth is that, even if you do great recovery work, love God, and walk with him every day, a certain element of suffering is still inevitable.
St. Francis de Sales said, “The same everlasting Father who cares for you today will take care of you tomorrow, and every day. Either he will shield you from suffering, or he will give you unfailing strength to bear it.”
There are thousands of promises in God’s Word. But nowhere does God promise that we will never face trials.
But we do have this promise: “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you” (Isaiah 41;10).
Recovery Step: When life is easy, trust God. When life is hard, trust God. At all times, trust God.
