One day, a little girl was walking through the grocery store with her mother. The girl grabbed something off a shelf and said, “Mommy, mommy, let’s get this!”
Her mother said, “No, honey. You have to cook that!”
That is life in 2024. We want instant everything.
The same applies to recovery. We want the effects and benefits of long-term recovery right now. But successful sobriety takes time. The road is often lined with potholes and speedbumps. Rarely is the journey as simple or short as we would like.
I’ve been reading through the Book of Exodus lately. I recently came across this little verse: “God led the people around by the way of the wilderness” (Exodus 13:18).
Make no mistake. The goal is the Promised Land – sobriety, recovery, and peace of mind. But sometimes you will find yourself in the wilderness. Don’t make the mistake of thinking that God is not in the wilderness. Sometimes, that is where he does his finest work.
Recovery Step: Follow God wherever he leads.
