If you are from the United States, you probably know that Chicago is known as the Windy City. But you may not know why. The nickname doesn’t come from the winds off Lake Michigan. The name “Windy City” was coined by 19th century journalists, in reference to the city’s leaders who were considered “windbags” and “full of hot air.”
I know a lot of people who are “full of hot air.” They talk a good game. But in building trust in someone who is a sex addict, it is imperative to trust his behaviors, not his words.
A wise man said it like this: “When words are many, transgression is not lacking, but whoever restrains his lips is prudent” (Proverbs 10:19).
Recovery Step: Choose your words carefully, and feel free to limit them. You will never learn by talking. It is in measuring your words and listening to others that you learn what it is to live a sober life.
