On October 21, the world’s shortest bus driver died at the age of 58. This is his story.
Frank Hachem of the United Kingdom was recognized by Guinness World Records as the shortest bus driver in the world, standing just 4 feet, 5 inches in height. The 58-year-old man had achondroplasia, a common form of dwarfism. But he never let his diminished height hold him back.
Frank’s supervisor acknowledged his passing: “The news has sent a shock wave through Portsmouth depot and Stagecoach South, as Frank was a very highly respected member of the team and became great friends with so many of his colleagues.”
I can’t imagine the challenges of driving a bus at 6’5”, let alone 4’5”. But Frank learned at an early age that his genetics didn’t define him.
Perhaps you have been born with your own challenges. You may come from a dysfunctional family. It is possible that your past is dotted with trauma and abuse. You didn’t choose this thing called sex addiction. But I know this – until you take ownership for your disease you will never take responsibility for your recovery.
Recovery Step: Your past doesn’t define you. What you do – from this day forward – will.
