Rodney Alcala committed his first crime on September 25, 1968. He made the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted List in 1971. He was in and out of prison through most of the 1970s. In 1980, Alcala was found guilty of killing a 12-year-old girl. He would later be found guilty of other murders, landing him a life sentence. He died in prison in 2021, at the age of 77.
All of this must have come as quite a surprise to a young lady named Cheryl Bradshaw. In 1978, Alcala made an appearance as a bachelor on the popular TV show, The Dating Game. Host Jim Lange introduced him as a “successful photographer.” Bradshaw picked him for her date at the end of the show.
The next day, Cheryl’s intuition kicked in. Something about Rodney didn’t feel right, so she canceled the date.
Cheryl picked up on what the television network’s background check missed. Something was off about this guy.
Now, I’m certainly not suggesting that your spouse is a serial killer. What I am suggesting is that sometimes, when things don’t seem right, you need to trust your intuition.
Recovery Step: Ask God for wisdom and he will give it to you (James 1:5). Then, learn to trust your intuition.
