Dracula was a real dude. He lived from 1431 to 1476, when he died at the age of 45. Dracula was a prince of a small country called Wallachia, in what is now southern Romania. He was famous for resisting Ottoman Turkish invasions and for his incredible cruelty.
However, there is no evidence that Dracula actually drank blood.
I’m not sure how the whole “Dracula drinks blood” rumor got started, but I do know that gossip is a part of the human dilemma.
The Bible says that we are not only to not gossip; we are to avoid those who do.
“He who goes about as a slanderer reveals secrets, therefore do not associate with such gossip” (Proverbs 20:19).
So why do people gossip? It is actually a physiological thing. Dr. Jack Schafer and his colleagues have done research on the topic. They have concluded, “The reward center in the brain, activated in response to negative gossip about others, piques people’s interests. People feel happier when they hear negative gossip about others and when they hear positive gossip about themselves. People gossip because it produces a physiological reward.”
True recovery is about more than not acting out. It is about building our character – in every facet. That includes controlling our tongues. And that means cutting out all gossip.
Recovery Step: Two words – don’t gossip!
