I think I’m becoming a cranky old guy. At least that’s what my neighbor’s kid said when I told him to get off my lawn.
These are just a few of the things that drive me crazier than they probably should:
- Walmart shoppers who leave their carts in the middle of the aisle
- Loud music on the beach
- Drivers in the right lane who never turn right
- People who take 10 minutes to order at the McDonald’s drive-through
- Men who don’t help women with their overhead baggage on an airplane
A friend told me to loosen up. He said, “It’s not rocket surgery!” (That’s another thing that irritates me – mixed metaphors.)
But my friend had a point. We all need to take stock in what really bothers us. Some things should bother us – rudeness, intolerance, arrogance, and people who drive at night with their headlights off.
But for most things, the advice of Paul works well: “You should keep a clear mind in every situation” (2 Timothy 4:5).
Recovery Step: Chill out.
