Timothy Richard Tebow described the Christian life well. The football icon said, “I’m not perfect. I’m never going to be. And that’s the great thing about living the Christian life and trying to live by faith, is you’re trying to get better every day. You’re trying to improve.”
In recovery, improvement is a great word. Don’t think arrival. Think journey. Don’t think perfection. Think progress. And don’t think completion. Think improvement.
For those of us who feel like we just don’t have what it takes, Peter offers hope. He wrote, “His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness” (2 Peter 1:3).
Spend less time longing for the tools you don’t yet have, and more time using the tools you have already. God has given you exactly what you need in order to stay sober for the rest of today.
Recovery Step: Use what you already have.
