God has given us all the same thing every year – 12 months; 365 days; 8,760 hours; 525,600 minutes; 31,536,000 seconds. It’s what we do with that time that counts.
J.R.R. Tolkien said, “All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”
Laura Meyer, clinical therapist, writes, “I ask clients to consider filling the empty space with what they find valuable, meaningful, and important.”
If you want to stay in recovery, I suggest you do three things with your time every day:
- Recovery reading
- Prayer
- Connection with others
Start each day right and the rest will become much easier. As Solomon advised, “Plant your seed in the morning and keep busy all afternoon” (Ecclesiastes 11:6).
Recovery Step: Invest your time in something productive today.
