In recovery, the measure of success is not whether you ever have a slip or relapse, but how you respond. Don’t misunderstand me; you should never have another slip or relapse! But if you keep this verse close by: “The righteous falls seven times and rises again, but the wicked stumble in times of calamity” (Proverbs 24:16).
Did you catch that? “The righteous falls.”
Quit focusing on the end game, and start looking to the next 24 hours. In recovery, you will find milestones, but no finish line.
I don’t know most of you who are reading this right now, from 25 countries around the world. But I do know two things about you:
- It’s too soon to quit.
- It’s too late to stop.
Recovery Step: It’s too soon to quit and too late to stop pushing forward. So just take one step today in the right direction.
