In their song, Jesus, Friend of Sinners, Casting Crowns included the following words:
“Jesus, friend of sinners, the truth’s become so hard to see.
The world is on their way to you, but they’re tripping over me.”
Too often, it is those of us who claim a Christian faith and who claim real sobriety who become a roadblock to others in desperate need of hope and freedom.
If you want to read an eye-opening treatise on this subject, pick up a challenging little book written by Bruce Bickel and Stan Jantz, I’m Fine With God. It’s Christians I Can’t Stand. Their stated goal is, “Getting past the religious garbage in the search for spiritual truth.”
Recovery Step: The Bible says that believers are a “light,” and that we are to “bring salvation to the ends of the earth” (Acts 13:47). But we can only be light when we step out of the darkness.
