One of the most common questions I get is, “How do I overcome fantasy?” Of course, there is no silver bullet. The problem is that our biggest sex organ is our brain. As long as we have a brain, fantasy can be a threat.
While there are many tools we can use to overcome fantasy – thought replacement, 20-minute rule, pop & pray, make a call, go for a walk, to name a few – there is one secret to overcoming fantasy that I guarantee will bring you great results.
Quit downloading images into your head.
Fantasy today is based on images from yesterday. So quit taking in those images. No more porn. No more gawking at women. No more late-night TV. No more social media. Limit the images you take in today, and eventually, the images in your head will fade. You can’t do anything to erase images that are already there, but with time they will fade.
“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things” (Philippians 4:8).
Recovery Step: Turn off the camera of your eyes to the images of today that will become the fantasies of tomorrow.
