In 1982, someone in the Chicago area laced Tylenol-branded acetaminophen capsules with potassium cyanide, resulting in seven deaths. The person who did this was never found.
As for the seven individuals who took the Tylenol pills, each of them did so with complete confidence that the pills would accomplish their intended goal of pain relief. In other words, they were sincere.
But being sincere is not enough.
Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6). He is not a truth. Jesus is the truth.
If you sincerely take poison, thinking it is a legitimate pain pill, you will wake up sincerely dead. If you embrace any other road to heaven except Jesus Christ, you will be sincerely lost.
And if you are sincere about your sobriety, but don’t back it up with action, it will get you nothing.
Recovery Step: Sincerity is overrated. Action is underrated. Choose action.
