The fact that you are reading this right now means you likely fall into one of three groups: (a) you are an addict, (b) you are married to an addict, or (c) you are reading someone else’s mail. In any case, you have known pain and heartache in your life. That is an inevitable part of life. But from suffering comes hope.
Helen Keller said, All the world is full of suffering. It is also full of the overcoming of it.”
From the story of the prophet Elijah we find hope.
Pastor Ben Young writes, “When Elijah was on the run from Jezebel, he was afraid and depressed, so he hid in the cave at Horeb. God called him to come out of the cave and into the light. He knew Elijah needed to connect to people he loved, and Elijah needed to get back into the game (1 Kings 19).”
The key phrase there is, “God called him.” No matter how far you have strayed, how much you’ve been hurt, or how dark it has become, God is still calling.
Recovery Step: God speaks from the darkness. It is your job to listen.
